每年世界气象日都有一个中心活动内容，各成员国在这一天可根据当年的中心内容，开展多种形式的宣传和纪念活动，如组织群众到气象台站参观访问，举行有政府领导人参加的群众庆祝仪式，举办气象仪表装备、照片、图表和资料的展览，举行记者招待会，由报刊、广播电台、电视台报道特写文章和讲话，放映气象科学电影，发行纪念邮票等
