据2006年统计，我国有8200多万残疾人。残疾人是弱势人群，需要政府和全社会的
帮助。我国政府高度关心残疾人，制定了残疾人保障法，维护残疾人的合法权益，发展
残疾人事业，保障残疾人平等地充分参与社会生活，共享社会物质文化成果。政府在保
障残疾人的生活、就业、子女上学、医疗康复等诸多方面做了大量的工作。
但是光有政府的努力不够，需要全社多来会关心残疾人。残敬助敬历来是中华民族
的好传统。社会上有许许多多的热心为残疾人人捐钱捐物，举办各种慈善活动，如：义
演、义卖等，为生活不便的残疾人提供各种服务。
虽然我们为残疾人做了许多，但很多方面还有待于改进。在公共场所应该建造更多
的便利设施，应该建立更多的组织、有更多的志愿者为残疾人服务。我们每个公民都应
该视敬残助残为自己的责任。另一方面，残疾人应该自尊、自信、自强、自立，为我国
的社会主义建设贡献力量。

In the picture, some able-bodied persons are showingconcern to a disabled man who is sitting in a wheelchair. Suchscenes of helping the disabled are nowadays
not uncommon inour society. It is reported that there are approximately 60million
disabledpeople in our country. They are a disadvantageous group of people inour
society who needhelp both from the government and from the wholesociety.
In order to help the disabled to lead a normal and meaningfullife, our government has takenvarious measures. However, only the government’s effortsare
not enough. Thewhole society should be concerned over the welfare of thedisabled.
There are a greatmany warm-hearted persons voluntarily contribute money tohelp
the disabled,especially those who have lost the ability to make theirliving.
Charityactivities, such as charity performances and charity sales, arecarried
out to raise moneyfor them. Many organizations offer various kinds of serviceto
those disabledpeople who have inconvenience in theirlives.
Although much has been done, there is still a lotto be improved. More
convenientfacilities should be provided for the disabled in publicplaces.
What’s moreimportant,there should be more well-trained teachers educatingthem
and moreorganizations working for them. Every citizen should take it as hisown
responsibility torespect and help the disabled. On the other hand, thedisabled
should learn to beindependent and do something useful to thesociety.
