thus/thereby＋－ing

我们都知道，两个句子如果是因果关系，常用thus、 therefore、hence、consequently、
asaresult等承联，此时两个句子的主语为不同的主语。如果两个句子的主语为同一主语
可用 thus/ thereby ＋ －ing （现在分词）引导短语，作结果状语，前面句子表示原
因，后面的分词短语表示是结果。
例句：
1)More and more women are continuing to work after marriage,thus remaining
financially independent oftheirhusbands.
越来越多的妇女结婚后继续工作，这样经济上仍可独立于他们的丈夫。
2)Recently we have employed a new technique in the production,thus reducing
thecost.
最近我们在生产中采用了一项新技术，降低了生产成本。
3)Agriculture has developed rapidly, thus providing lightindustry with
ample rawmaterials.
农业迅速发展,从而为轻工业提供了充足的原料。
4）The economy is bad right now, thereby droppingthe value ofmy
portfolio.
现在经济不景气，因而降低了我的证券投资的价值。
5)In this way, advertising enhances information flows betweentraders，thereby
strengthens competitivemarketforces.
这样，广告增进了交易人之间的信息交流，由此加强了市场的竞争力。
6）The rivet contracts as it cools, therebydrawing the platestogether.
铆钉冷却后会收缩，因而将板块紧固在一起。
7)This enables the occeans to absorb and store vastquantities of heat,thereby
often preventing climaticextremes.
这使海洋能吸收和储存大量的热量,因此经常防止出现酷冷酷热的气候。
8）Innovation and improvement in these industries will also leadto better
service deliveryand greater consumer choice, therebypromoting growth and
creating newjobs.
这些行业本身不断创新，努力求进，亦有助改善服务，为消费者提供更多选择，从而推动
