这组词都可表示“轻视”、“藐视”、“蔑视”、“鄙视”、“瞧不起”的意思。

look down on/ upon非正式用语,指自视地位优越而看不起某人或某事(To look down uponmeans to consider someone or something lesser or inferior insome way.)

1)You should not look downupon the youth just because they are youngand

inexperienced.

你不应该因为年轻人没有经验而看不起他们。

2)In business, you shouldby no means look down on your rivals.

做生意时,你决不能小瞧你的竞争对手。

3)Weshould not look down upon disabled people so thatthere will be a

斥。语气较强,常伴有愤怒或恼怒的情感。

● scorn可跟动词不定式或动名词,表示“不屑于做某事”。

思。

这三名词都可表示“轻视”、“藐视”的意思,常接介词for。contempt普通

用词,只用作名词。 scorn 和 disdain用法同其动词。三者侧重不同,

别不大。

2)He always showscontempt for those whose positions or ranks arebelow
