美国国歌“星条旗之歌”与麦克亨利堡
2014年4月初，我们到巴尔的摩的麦克亨利堡参观，这是我们以色列之行的附带游览。因为从我们要乘坐的从华盛顿IAD机场飞往伊斯坦布尔的飞机是深夜11时多起飞，而我们中午就可以到达华盛顿地区，所以就先飞到巴尔的摩参观著名的麦克亨利堡--美国国歌“星条旗之歌”诞生的地方。晚餐享用著名的Marylandbluecrab，然后驱车前往IAD机场，飞往伊斯坦布尔，再转机前往特拉维夫。
1814年，英军向麦克亨利堡（FortMcHenry）（如上图）发起攻击，从停靠在巴尔的摩（Baltimore）港的舰艇上用迫击炮连续25小时发射了1,500多枚炮弹，但麦克亨利堡仍毅然挺立。9月13日清晨，整夜被拘留在英军舰艇上的一名律师弗朗西斯·斯科特·基（FrancisScott Key）看到美国国旗仍在要塞上空迎风飘扬，写下了一首歌的歌词。这首歌最初的歌名是“保卫麦克亨利堡”（The Defenseof Fort McHenry），后来更名为“星条旗之歌”（The Star-Spangled Banner），用JohnStafford Smith作曲的“To Anacreon inHeaven”做为配曲。这首歌深受美国人民的喜爱，很快就传遍全国，1931年被正式定为美利坚合众国的国歌。
麦克亨利堡战役是“1812年战争“转折点。这里已成为著名的旅游胜地，每年多达50多万来巴尔的摩参观的游客都会到此一游。麦克亨利堡建于1798年，以美国第二任战争部长詹姆斯·麦克亨利（JamesMcHenry）的名字命名。麦克亨利堡外形呈星状，结构与众不同，最少只需5人就可形成万夫莫开之势。
虽然“星条旗之歌”有四组歌词，但实际上几乎只唱第一组歌词，不唱其他歌词，尤其是第三组带有反英情绪的歌词。而苏沙著名进行曲《星条旗永不落》(TheStars and Stripes Forever)经常被误认为是美国国歌，这是不正确的。《星条旗永不落》后被规定为美国进行曲（National March）。
