What is thesetting and history behind this project?
Video games wereoriginally designed and built as stand-alone systems with the userplaying against the machine. Although many advances have been madein game AI, humans still tend to enjoy competing against otherhumans over a network. There is a social aspect to network gamingwhere people form teams that play and leagues that play atscheduled times and keep scores over a prolonged period. This isimportant to video game vendors because it can result in increasedrevenue and extend the sales life of their products.
What is theproblem to be addressed?
There are 100 millionusers on the Internet, and hundreds of websites dedicated to videogame playing teams, called "clans". If users have to explore tofind the good clans that they can join, it takes a lot of theirtime. There is a need for a faster way for users to find highquality clan websites that interest them and that will allow themto join.
What are somecurrent approaches to this problem?
Users can tell eachother about clan websites, but that is not scalable because itdepends on manual steps by people who may not be motivated orhonest in their evaluations. There are already some clan directoryweb sites, but they are not automated so they are always out ofdate and do not rate the quality of the websites.

Why is thisproblem worth solving or worth solving better?
A better clandirectory service would be valuable because it could greatlyincrease player satisfaction and allow them to spend more timeplaying and less time searching. Implementing a better clandirectory would cause players to use that website rather than theexisting directories. The benefit to us could come in the form ofrevenue from advertising and service fees from video gamevendors.
How will thisproduct be better than previous approaches?
We add innovative newfeatures. Our affiliate directory will be larger an more detailed.We will offer built-in tools for managing membership and organizingevents such as game nights or tournaments.

Whatare the main risks of this project?
1.There is a potential conflict between the goals of a high-qualityappearance and one that is completely customizable. We can onlysucceed if players find the web site appealing, and game vendorscan customize it with no more effort than would be needed to builda static website. We already have a design in mind that willaddress this risk and we will review it with a web site designerwho worked for a game vendor site.
2.There are significant technical difficulties in building a web siteand web application. This will be a risk because one person on ourteam has much experience with the relevant tools and technologies.Although the others will learn, we will certainly make somemistakes and suboptimal choices. We will address this risk byscoping the project such that we have enough time to train and toreview the design and implementation.
3.The schedule for this pr oject is very short. We will manage this byplanning a conservatively scoped functional core and series offunctional enhancements that can be individually slipped to laterreleases if needed.
Whatare the main rewards if this project succeeds?
If weaccomplish the elements of our plan, our clan directory websiteengine will replace existing clan directory websites and generatetraffic which will result in advertising revenue and/or hostingfees paid by game vendors. Our ability to overcome the challengesabove will determine time to market, the speed of adoption, theamount of web traffic, and thus the generated revenue overtime.

以前写项目建议书的时候,GOOGLE过很多模板和写法。然后收藏起来,有时间的时候过滤掉一些不适用的(universityproject proposal, finacalproposal),留下above这个。很适用的一个版本。
Proposal的目标是以足够理由让用户/上级同意采用该产品或该方案,SO要从资历、技术、价格上突现自己的方案和产品高于竞争者。
国内的大企业的PROPOSAL很多做成一个PPT文件,和这里英文的PROPOSAL一样,除了介绍项目及目前用户对该设备的使用情况及需要改进的地方外,增加了公司介绍,包括公司雄厚的注册资金、优秀的人力资源、项目组织结构图、公司规模、类似产品业绩,插入很多雄伟的大设备照片,以此来证明本公司有实力做此项目,很吸引人的眼球。大的公司从开头就拿得了50%的胜率,而小公司只能从技术和服务上取胜了。
一个完整的EnglishProposal上面所介绍的内容还要包括项目预算,简单的付款方式和进度表。国内把钱写的建议书里的,会被认为有冒犯之意,另或有因初期预算价格太高被否决的危险,所以价格(CommercialProposal)一般不被列如建议书。
