Confuciustravlledfromonestatetoanotherpreachinghisdoctrinesuntilhewasold.Hespenthislastyearsincompilingandediting.HisworksincludeBookofSpringandAutumn,BookofOdes,BookofHistory,BookofRites,BookofMusicandBookofchange.ThesesixbooksregardedastheclassicalworksofConfucianismhavebeenhandeddowntothepresenttime.HefoundedthefirstprivateschoolinChinesehistory.Hewastheteacherof3,000disciplesamongwhom72wereSages.HismajorsayingswerewrittendowninLunYu(TheAnalects),oneoftheFourBooks.
ConfuciuslivedinthelateSpringandAutumnperiod(770-476B.C).Inhislastyearshelivedinrelativepovertyandnolongerenjoyedgreatfame.Butafterhisdeath,histhoughtcontinuedtoinfluencetheChinesepeopleforover2,500years.Hisdoctrineonmoralityandethicshashadagreateffectontheirideology,strentheningtheunityofthenationandmakingitknowntotheworldforitscourteousdealingandsolemnrites.
Confuciussaid,"Lettherebethreemenwalkingtogether:fromthenmuberIshouldbesuretofindmyinstructor.""Tomakeaccomplishmentyoumusthelpotherstobeaccomplishedtoo.""Neverbesatiatedwithyouknowledgeandneverbetiredofteaching."...Today,thesephilosophicalsayingsarestillshiningbrilliantly.
InthelongspanoftheChinesehistory,thedescendantsoftheYellowEmperorhavebeenrighteouslyproudoftheexistenceoftheoutstandingConfucius.
Theinfluenceofthegreatthinkerandeducatorhasnowexceededthenationalboundaryandspreadtootherpartsoftheworld.ItisourearnesthopethatthroughmoreunderstandingofConfciusandthebridgeoffriendshipandculturalexchange,wecanmaketheworldfilledwithmorelove,justiceandpeace.WewishalsothatweoffspringoftheYellowEmperor,eitherinChinaorabroad,throughbetterunderstandingofConfciusandacademicresearch,willbemoreinspiredwithnationalism,andfindanewwayofmakingthepastservethepresent,andredoubleoureffortsforrejuvenationofChina.
